Overseas Use

Check Card

Now you can use your check card overseas.
This is a check card that can be used at all domestic and overseas credit card merchants and Visa ATMs, up to the remaining
balance of the cardholder¢®-s account. It offers a safe and convenient way to travel without carrying large amounts of cash
(limitations apply to foreigners). The card can be used overseas the same way as it is used domestically and is accepted
at 24 million MasterCard merchants worldwide (signature authorization).

Settlement of Overseas Transactions
  • When using the check card overseas, a processing fee designated by the international head offices of Visa (1%)
and MasterCard (1%) and an overseas use fee (0.2%) are added to the transaction. The transaction is made in USD
and converted into KRW by Hana Bank in the cardholder¢®-s stead using KEB¢®-s TT selling rate (no exchange fee) on the day
of transaction settlement by the concerned credit card company is head office.
  • Charge in KRW = (Transaction Amount+Processing Fee)*(TT Selling Rate+Overseas Use Fee)
Processing Fee: 1% of Transaction Amount Overseas Use Fee: 0.2% of TT Selling Rate If the transaction is settled
by the credit card company on a non-business day, the exchange rate for the preceding business day will apply.
  • Advanced Holding System
  • Authorization Hold
  • Overseas hotels, car rental companies, airlines, automated gas stations, and online retailers may authorize a transaction
first before clearing it in order to validate the card. This puts the cardholder¢®-s account on hold and, if the preauthorization
is not cancelled, may continue to remain so. So it¢®-s important that you request the merchant to cancel the preauthorization.
  • It's safer to use a foreign exchange credit card at preauthorization merchants such as hotels, car rental companies, airlines,
automated gas stations, and online retailers.
  • Remember to write down the cancellation number if you are cancelling a hotel or a rental car reservation. Without it, it might not
be possible to cancel the transaction.
  • Making an overseas transaction (excluding cash withdrawals) places an additional 3% of the authorized amount on hold,
which is then settled as a part of the transaction amount.
  • At overseas automated gas stations, preauthorization of US$1 places US$40 on hold, which is then settled as a part
    of the transaction amount.
  • 10% of the holding amount may be charged in addition by merchants where tipping is the norm (restaurants).
  • Holding amount and withdrawn amount may not be the same.
  • Checking your account balance while overseas may be difficult, so it¢®-s safer to deposit a sufficient amount in advance.
Warnings on Overseas Use
  • Make sure the name on your card is the same as the name on your passport before departing.
Merchants may not accept your card if the names do not match.
  • While overseas, treat your check card like cash. Keep the card on you at all times and check all transaction
slips (amount, currency, etc.) before signing.
  • The cardholder is wholly responsible for losses and damages resulting from divulgence of his or her PIN.
Do not share your PIN with anyone.
  • We recommend you arrange an alternative payment method (a spare credit card) in case your primary card ends up getting lost,
    stolen, or damaged.
  • Hotels may impose a ¢®¡Æno show¢®¡¾ charge and charge the cardholder for additional goods and services used
(mini bar, room service, etc.) upon checkout.
  • If you had your card preauthorized but made the payment in cash, make sure to request cancellation of the preauthorization
    and to obtain a receipt.
  • Note that online transactions usually require you to provide the merchant your card number and the card¢®-s expiration date
and may result in recurring charges.
  • Check cards cannot be used overseas for two to four minutes around 0:30 (Korea Standard Time) each day due to system
    maintenance.
  • Your records of overseas credit card use can be accessed online (www.hanacard.co.kr).
  • To report a lost/stolen card or if you have questions, please contact the customer center at ¢Ï 82-2-524-8100.
  • If you discover that an unknown transaction has been made using your card, contact Hana Card (formerly KEB Hana Card)
right away to file a claim. The claim will be processed in accordance with the policies of Hana Card and MasterCard Worldwide.

  • Read the card¡¯s promotional materials and all the terms and conditions of membership before applying for a card.
